Where to Take the EPA 608 Exam

There is no government exam center for EPA 608: the exams are given by certifying organizations that EPA has approved, and they deliver them through trade schools, supply houses, union training centers, online proctoring, and exam sessions at employers. You do not apply to EPA and EPA does not book seats. You pick an approved certifying organization, and its rules set where and how you sit.

How the sittings actually run

The practical pattern:

1. Pick the certifying organization your school, employer, or supply house already works with, or choose one from EPA’s list directly
2. Register and pay with that organization, not with EPA
3. Sit Core plus the Types you need in one session or across several: passed sections bank, you do not resit Core to add a Type
4. Receive your card from the certifying organization once sections are passed

What to bring

Photo ID and, if your session is through an instructor or employer, whatever registration confirmation the organization issued. Pressure-temperature charts and calculation aids are supplied or built into the exam where the format allows them. Your own phone is banned in every proctored format.

After the exam

The certifying organization scores the sitting and issues the wallet card showing which certification level you hold. Section 608 certification does not expire under the current rule, so there is no renewal sitting to book. Keep the card: employers and wholesalers ask for it, and replacing one goes through the organization that issued it, which is why choosing an organization that keeps good records matters.

Where it bites

• Paying a slick website that is not on EPA’s list. The card is worthless. Verify the organization against EPA’s own Section 608 pages before paying anyone.
• Sitting only Type II because that is what the job uses today. The marginal study for Universal is small and it never expires. Most candidates who stop at one Type book a second sitting within a few years.
• Assuming online means unproctored. Remote sittings are proctored by camera under the organization’s rules, and a phone in frame can void the attempt.
