Modine recalls Airedale ClassMate and SchoolMate ventilation fans after fire reports

What changed

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission posted a recall on Aug. 20, 2026, for Modine Manufacturing Company/Airedale ventilation fans in specified ClassMate and SchoolMate heat pump models.

The recalled model/configuration combinations listed by CPSC are CMD with ventilation configuration digit 9 of C, D, or E; CMP with C, D, or E; SMG with H, J, K, N, or P; SMW with H, J, K, N, or P; and CMS with H, J, K, N, or P.

The Airedale brand name is on a sticker on the front of the unit. CPSC says the model name and serial number are on the serial plate on the underside of the control unit.

The recalled heat pumps were sold through independent dealers nationwide from August 2013 through January 2026 for $15,000 to $25,000. CPSC says the ventilation fans were also sold separately through independent dealers for $250 to $450.
