What changed

The Environmental Protection Agency released HFC allowance allocation data covering 2022 through 2025 and opened a public comment period through August 27.

The publication is part of the federal HFC phasedown program. It gives manufacturers, distributors, contractors, and other interested parties a chance to inspect the agency's allocation record and comment on the data.

What it means for the shop

This is not a new installation deadline. Its practical value is as a supply signal during the refrigerant transition.

HVAC businesses that track refrigerant availability and pricing can use the record as one input, alongside distributor inventory and manufacturer guidance. A federal allocation figure does not predict the price a local shop will pay.

What to watch

Watch for material corrections to the dataset, comments from industry associations, and any later agency response. Shops should continue using the EPA's sector-specific transition tables for actual equipment restrictions and dates.
