ASE A-Series (Automobile and Light Truck)
ASE's car and light truck certifications, A1 through A9. Each is earned by exam plus hands-on work experience and retested every five years.

Engine mechanical diagnosis and repair.
- ASE A2 Automatic Transmission/Transaxle
Automatic transmission and transaxle diagnosis and repair.
- ASE A3 Manual Drive Train and Axles
Clutches, manual transmissions, drive shafts and axles.
- ASE A4 Suspension and Steering
Steering, suspension and wheel alignment.
- ASE A5 Brakes
Hydraulic, power assist, drum, disc, parking brake and electronic brake systems.
- ASE A6 Electrical/Electronic Systems
Batteries, starting, charging, lighting, instruments and accessories.
- ASE A7 Heating and Air Conditioning
MVAC system diagnosis and repair; pairs in practice with EPA Section 609 for refrigerant work.
- ASE A8 Engine Performance
Driveability, ignition, fuel, emissions and computerised engine controls.
- ASE A9 Light Vehicle Diesel Engines
Light-duty diesel engine diagnosis and repair. Not required for Master Automobile Technician status.
